Abruzzo, a region of excellence for parks, lends itself very well to the practice of mountain biking, with several route along the coast or mountains, hills and gullies at the edge of impressive, around lakes or along the banks green river, between beautiful beech woods or on the many plateaus, offering certainly much different emotions each time the rider novice more experienced and hardened.

And a lot riding on dirt or cart roads more or less ancient, but certainly not much traffic, because used only by shepherds and woodcutters or being replaced by more convenient and accessible roads, often meet old churches and charming towns lost out the traditional tour. Legambiente and WWF cooperated in the drafting of the guide considering that this sport can be compatible with the proper enjoyment of nature, provided they meet certain basic standards of behavior. Among these, not to cause disturbance to wildlife, no cackle, no damage to the flora of the paths or riding out on the lawns, do not waste away, not walk the trails, observe the silence and stillness of the natural environment without disturbing other visitors, reduce speed down and make withdrawals only in small groups.

Mountain biking

In this way, the mountain biking can be a means of balanced by the nature immersed in the culture and history of this region also some small but important tips to safeguard their safety, especially for those approaching for the first time to mountain biking : always wear when hiking the special helmet (some initial tumble is not impossible on the most rugged paths) always communicate, before departure, in what locations you want to go, always choose a route suitable to their ability, not to transform a coveted ride immersed in nature in a too laborious and endless “Calvary” not suitable to their physical preparation.

And if you do not want to remain standing for an ordinary mechanical failure, worry about the technical aspect and also carry the bare minimum: an inner tube repair kit and spare against any other “holes” for more jet sides, pump, “Chain tool” to remedy the failure of the chain and some key to “brucoli” to tighten, if proof were needed, at least the most important bolt (steering, brakes, pedals and gearbox). Finally, we simply need to mount our mountain bikes and pedaling the magnificent land of Abruzzo.

Imposing whitewashed valleys, plains that the snow turns into an impressive high altitude deserts, magnificent beech woods decorated with arabesques of Galaverna and snow. Certainly, winter mountaineering and ski-mountaineering cannot be improvised, but the excellent mountain guides d’Abruzzo (their professional preparation is identical to that of their colleagues in the North) are available to accompany, suggest, teach. Cross-country skiing, however, is an adventure for everyone. Sure, some lessons it is useful to approach the time walking, the step of skating, the technical basis of descent.

But then you just set off on the highlands and in the woods to enter into a fascinating nature and often full of surprises. Under the thick blanket of white beech also closer to civilization is transformed into the fantasy of excursionists’ winter in a corner of Scandinavia or Canada. The tracks and routes not described in this guide begin beaten by the best-known ski resorts such as those quieter, but also from towns and villages unknown to the lovers of downhill slopes.
